Tanja was the name chosen by my daughter for this funny puppy. She and her husband found her in the parking lot of a Walmart in Lake Charles, La on Thanksgiving of 1999. She was a ball of fur, spots and stripes; evidence of her German Shepherd/Blue Healer heritage. I'm not sure if, even then, she resembled the Queen of the Fairies that was the Celtic definition of her name.
Because of their move to an apartment in Houston and my granddaughter's allergies Tanja came to live with me. She became my friend and confidant. She was a clown, a protector and snake hunter. Tanja loved me unconditionally. Her way of getting my attention was a nudge at my elbow or make a noise in her throat. She wanted to talk and tried in Scooby-Doo fashion. I have never had a dog like her. Even her problems with one of my other dogs didn't change how much she meant to me.
I buried Tanja on Saturday, January 10, 2009. I miss her so much.

Hi Bobbie,
I lost my dog, Missy, in December...Dave and I were gone on a trip and left her with his daughter Carrie. She called us and Missy had gotten an infection. Long story short, they could operate, but no guarantee that she would recover (and the surgery was expected to run at least $1000, not including the ER). The infection was in alot of her body, so it was not hopeful. So we had to put her down. We got her in 1997, a year before Gary passed away, and through these years, especially right after his passing, she was so much more than just company; for a time, she was my sanity. I really miss her...she was a connection for me with Gary. She used to JUMP up in his lap, (hitting him in a not so comfortable spot!)after running around the house to the tune of "Mighty Dooooggggg" and she would "groom" Gary's beard with her teeth...it was pretty funny to watch. I do understand how you miss Tanja, in strange and funny ways...
Vicki
